The Shadows are Walls

The Shadows Are Walls explores the body and the home as sites of archive. The series brings together environmental portraits of my grandfather, I. Martin Pompadur, and other family members with interior images of his house in Connecticut. Here, the archive is not only a means of preservation, but also something shaped by time and subject to cycles of life and death, creation and loss. The project moves between holding onto family history and recognizing its fragility, reckoning with what cannot be preserved. All images are scans of 11x14 silver gelatin prints.
